The Beach Boys – Fun fun fun

Hoy en nuestro rincón musical le llega el turno a los Beach Boys. Un grupo que podría tener varias canciones relacionadas con los coches en esta sección, pero por hoy nos vamos a conformar con uno de sus mayores éxitos: Fun fun fun.

Se trataba del primer single de Shut Down Volume 2, el quinto disco de la banda, editado en Marzo de 1964 (el single vio la luz un mes antes). Llegó a ser número 6 en las listas de ventas estadounidenses, pero no triunfó en el Reino Unido.

La letra cuenta cómo una chica le toma el coche (un T-Bird) prestado a su padre para ir a estudiar, pero en vez de ello se dedica a pasear por la ciudad e ir a una hamburguesería, presumiendo. Era una historia real que le ocurrió a la hija del director de una estación de radio. Se la contó a los Beach Boys mientras estaban allí para una entrevista, dándoles la idea para la canción, que escribieron Brian Wilson y Mike Love.

La canción, como suele ser habitual, ha sido multiversionada. Ya al poco de editarse fue versionada en francés (Fume, fume, fume) por dos grupos, Les Missiles y Les Excentriques. The Carpenters incluyeron una versión en su disco Now & Then (1973), y Status Quo la tocó junto a los propios Beach Boys en 1996. La versión más reciente formaba parte de la banda sonora de la nueva versión de Herbie que protagonizó Lindsay Lohan en el 2005, y su autor fue Caleigh Peters.
